KARACHI: In a major development for public transport in Pakistan, Karachi’s Green and Orange Lines have officially launched a smart ticketing facility, allowing passengers to purchase bus tickets using debit and credit cards.
As per the details, this innovative system is the first instance of implementation of smart ticketing in any mass transit system across the country.
The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, Vice Chancellor of NED University and Board Member of Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL). During the launch, Dr. Lodhi emphasized the benefits of using advanced technology to enhance the passenger experience.
“This smart ticketing system will simplify the travel process for Green Line passengers,” said Dr. Lodhi. “At all stations, passengers will be able to load funds onto their passenger cards using their debit or credit cards, making the ticketing process more efficient and user-friendly.”
Abdul Aziz, Operations Manager, Green Line Bus Service highlighted the importance of this facility and said that it is a first for metro services in Pakistan. He explained that passengers can now easily purchase bus tickets from any bank’s debit or credit card, which has significantly improved passenger convenience.
The introduction of smart ticketing in Karachi’s public transport system is expected to streamline the ticketing process, reduce waiting times and increase the overall efficiency of the city’s mass transit operations. The move reflects a growing commitment to modernize public transportation and provide residents with a more accessible and seamless travel experience.
