ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with a team of members of the Dairy Association to discuss some of its core challenges.
The team pointed to several key issues impacting the dairy sector, but it strongly focused on the taxation of milk. The minister appreciated the issues discussed and pronounced that milk is a necessity for every consumer and should be free of tax or at least subject to taxation at the lowest level.
Rana Tanveer Hussain voiced the government‘s commitment to minimizing the tax imposed on milk and assured the team that they would share good news relating to milk taxation in the future.
The minister added that many rural farmers depend greatly on milk sales for economic survival and that the state is fully committed to supporting their income security.
He made it clear that supporting rural farmers who support dairy production and contribute to the economic development of the agricultural sector is vital.
The ministry plans to convene a seminar aimed at discussing viable solutions to the issues facing dairy, with a full range of stakeholders present, to discuss the dairy sector’s sustainability.
The seminar represents a unique opportunity for all participants: the dairy industry experts will share knowledge and expertise and develop strategies beneficial to all stakeholders involved in the dairy production process.
