
MUZAFFARGARH: Punjab police apprehended five suspects in connection with the suspected gang rape of a child in Muzaffargarh on Saturday, Police said in an official statement.
Muzaffargarh District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Rizwan Khan took notice of the gang rape in the Shah Jamal police station area.
“A case has been registered against the accused at the Shah Jamal police station in Muzaffargarh,” said the police spokesperson.
The first information report (FIR) was filed under Sections 375-A (gang rape) and 377-B (sexual abuse of a child) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
“The accused took an underage child to a mango garden and assaulted him,” the spokesman stated.
Last year, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Sahil’s Six Months Cruel Numbers data indicated that a total of 1,630 incidences of child abuse were recorded throughout the country.
In the first half of 2024, 862 incidents of child sexual assault, 668 cases of kidnapping, 82 cases of missing children, and 18 cases of child marriage were recorded. 48 incidences of pornography following sexual abuse were also reported.
On Friday, Punjab police confirmed they had arrested three of the four men accused of gang raping a 16-year-old girl after abducting her in Chak 437 GB, Samundri in Faisalabad district.
Last month, Punjab police detained three men for allegedly gang-raping a woman in Lahore.
