LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched a massive crackdown across Lahore to ensure safe and wholesome food supply, following the instructions of Director General Asim Javed.
In an early morning operation, PFA food safety teams inspected 18 snack outlets and 19 meat suppliers and checked over 51,450 kg of chicken. During the inspection, 1,500 kg of diseased chickens were seized and safely destroyed.
Due to poor hygiene and substandard conditions, a snack shop was sealed, and a total fine of PKR 270,000 was imposed on various establishments. An additional fine of Rs 97,000 was imposed on 19 meat suppliers and warehouses in Tollenton Market, Lahore.
DG Food Authority Asim Javed revealed that the seized diseased chicken meat was being prepared for distribution to various retail shops. He added that a breakfast place was sealed due to hazardous hygiene conditions, including an infestation of cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes in the kitchen area.
DG Asim Javed said, “We are committed to ensuring quality food supply and are actively cracking down on the adulteration mafia.” He added, “Compliance with food safety regulations is essential for everyone involved in the food business in Punjab.”
