Punjab to Launch Phase Two of Laptop Scheme as 30,000 Devices Arrive

LAHORE: Thousands of university students in Punjab are set to benefit from the second phase of the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme after the provincial government confirmed the arrival of the first batch of laptops.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said 30,000 laptops have reached the province under Phase Two of the programmer. He added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the distribution of more than 70,000 laptops to deserving students during the current year.

The initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader plan to promote digital education and improve access to modern learning tools at public universities and colleges.

The announcement follows the provincial government’s record education budget for the 2026-27 financial year, with Rs750 billion allocated to strengthen schools, colleges and higher education institutions across Punjab.

According to budget documents, the School Education Department has received the largest share of funding for operational expenses and development projects. A significant portion of the allocation has also been reserved for grants and subsidies aimed at improving government schools across the province.

The Higher Education Department has also secured increased funding to support universities, development programmes and employee-related expenses, including salaries and academic services.

Officials say the expanded laptop scheme is designed to help students improve their digital skills, access online learning resources and support research and academic activities. The distribution schedule and eligibility criteria for Phase Two are expected to be announced by the provincial government in the coming weeks.
