ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has unveiled plans to provide solar systems to deserving people across the country.

Talking to the media in Sukkur, PPP leader Khursheed Shah outlined the move and said that the party’s aim is to distribute solar systems capable of generating electricity up to 300 units. Shah, however, stressed that implementation of the programme would take some time.

The decision to provide solar systems is in line with the PPP’s election manifesto, which promised to provide free electricity to consumers consuming up to 300 units of electricity if the government is formed.

The move comes amid similar promises by other political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), whose vice president had announced plans to provide free electricity to consumers using up to 200 units.

It is noteworthy that the provincial government of Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had recently announced its initiative to distribute solar systems across the province. In the review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif, it was revealed that 50 thousand solar systems will be provided in the first phase of the program.

The Solar Home Solutions programme, spearheaded by Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif, aims to equip households with modern solar panels, inverters, batteries and other essential components. In the initial phase of the program, 12.6 billion rupees have been allocated for its implementation.

These initiatives indicate a concerted effort by political parties and government authorities to promote renewable energy solutions and provide access to electricity to disadvantaged communities. By leveraging solar energy technology, these programs aim to meet energy needs while also contributing to environmental sustainability.
