LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has provided instructions to departments regarding advanced preparation plans for emergencies in the heat of the rising temperature and the predicted heatwave.
The province is expected to experience a rise in temperature of 4-7 degrees centigrade this month, especially in the districts of southern Punjab, where the potential for extreme heat is greater.
The PDMA has also instructed deputy commissioners to ensure that public places have measures in place to protect the public. The School Education Department has suspended outdoor activities for students, and schools in Lahore have been asked to put up signs at entrances with information on heat precaution precautions.
The Health Department has also been tasked with establishing and operating dedicated heat counters in hospitals to manage heat-related cases effectively.
Citizens have also been advised to stay inside when possible during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and remain protected from the sun by using a head covering or umbrella.
The local government department was also asked that there be water available at public gatherings and water supply for animals in livestock markets. In support of farmers, they have been warned about potential heat impacts on crops.
District animal care centres have also been instructed to function around the clock. These recommendations aim to reduce the risks associated with heat waves.
