
KARAK: At least 10 people were killed and numerous more injured in a tragic traffic collision between a passenger vehicle and a trailer near Methakhel on the Indus Highway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak region on Tuesday, according to rescue and police officials.
According to Rescue 1122 personnel, ten persons died on the spot, while at least eight or more were injured. The injured were sent to the district headquarters hospital, where an emergency was declared shortly after the accident.
Several injured were reportedly in severe condition, and rescue workers were working to free passengers trapped within the wreckage. Authorities worried the death toll would grow.
The crash happened when a vehicle carrying people collided head-on with a trailer at Lucky Ghandaki, a steep portion of the Indus Highway infamous for numerous accidents owing to tight curves and high-speed traffic. said the police officials.
The victims’ names have not yet been identified. The accident occurred as the vehicle was en route from Kohat to Dera Ismail Khan. According to officials, initial indications suggest that the driver may have lost control while attempting to overtake.
Earlier, at least one person died and 25 people were injured when a passenger van transporting pilgrims to the Shah Noorani Shrine collided with another vehicle near Hub.
The terrible incident occurred as the bus was en route to the shrine and encountered an accident at Weirab Naddi.
Rescue workers hurried to the accident scene to quickly take the injured to local hospitals for prompt medical care.
