LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced that government employees will also be included in its electric bike programme after the first phase of the scheme for students is completed.
The decision was approved during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as the province continues to expand its clean and affordable transport initiatives.
Under the first phase, 100,000 electric bikes will be distributed to eligible students through an interest-free installment plan. Once this stage is completed, government employees across Punjab will also be able to apply under the same programme.
Officials said the provincial government will provide a Rs70,000 subsidy on each electric bike to reduce the overall cost. Beneficiaries are expected to pay around Rs2,100 per month through easy, interest-free installments.
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader plan to encourage the use of electric vehicles, lower transportation expenses and reduce environmental pollution.
