Punjab Launches New E-Bike Scheme for Students with Rs2,100 Monthly Installments

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a new phase of its E-Bike Scheme 2026, offering electric motorcycles to students through affordable, interest-free monthly installments.

The decision was approved during a meeting of the Punjab Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Under the programme, the government plans to distribute 100,000 electric bikes to eligible students over the next year.

According to officials, students will be able to obtain an electric bike by paying a monthly installment of Rs2,100 under an interest-free financing plan designed to make transportation more affordable.

Applicants will be required to make a down payment of Rs14,000. The Punjab government has, however, stated that the down payment and registration fees of female students will be paid by the chief minister, which would be a further effort to promote women’s education and mobility.

The provincial government will also cover Rs70,000 subsidy for every electric bike, which will make the cost to the students considerably less.
Officials said the scheme will not be limited to students alone. Government employees in Punjab will also be eligible to purchase electric bikes through easy installment plans under a separate financing arrangement.

During the meeting, authorities also reviewed progress on Punjab’s electric transport projects, including the establishment of a local electric bus assembly plant and plans to expand public transport services to dozens of cities and tehsils across the province.

The government says the latest initiative is aimed at promoting affordable transport, supporting students and encouraging the use of environmentally friendly vehicles across Punjab.
