AI Smart Glasses Become New Challenge for Schools During Exams

LONDON: Education authorities in several countries are tightening examination security after reports that students have started using AI-powered smart glasses to gain unfair advantages during tests.

The rise of wearable artificial intelligence has raised new worries about the integrity of exams, especially in nations where entrance exams are a significant element in university admissions and job prospects.
This month, Chinese officials tightened up checks on examinations held in the country’s annual university entrance exams, saying that invigilators will scrutinize glasses and other wearable devices that students bring to exam halls.
In the United Kingdom, authorities have also cautioned that the technology such as the glasses, wireless earbuds and other devices equipped with AI may make cheating much harder to detect than it is with the old-fashioned methods.
The same type of event has been reported in other countries such as South Korea and Taiwan, where education institutions are looking at revision of examination policies due to the use of AI-powered eyewear by students during exams.
The experts believe that many of the cases are likely to be cases that are reported and not all of the problem, as the modern smart glasses are made smaller, lighter, and harder to detect in normal inspections.
The new AI glasses can be linked to more sophisticated AI systems, and deliver information without drawing attention to themselves as they do not in the past. Schools and universities face new challenges with these latest AI glasses.
As Wearable AI technology continues to advance at a quick pace, education experts are questioning the efficacy of conventional assessment practices and seeking additional safeguards to ensure the integrity and fairness of exams in an increasingly digital world.
