Banks Across Pakistan to Remain Closed for Public Dealing on July 1

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced Wednesday, July 1, 2026, to be Bank Holiday for banks in the country for public dealing ahead of the start of the new financial year.

All commercial banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) are instructed to cease customer services for the day, according to the central bank. For this reason, the public banking services in the branches will not continue on July 1.

But the SBP clarified that the holiday would be applicable for public transactions only. Bank staff will continue working as normal for conducting internal activities, accounting and year-end financial operations.

The Bank Holiday each year is meant to enable financial institutions to finish off their much-needed paperwork and record-keeping for the new fiscal year. Similar holidays are observed every year by the banking sector.

Customers are informed that they need to finish the important banking operations before July 1 to avoid inconvenience. Digital banking services – such as Internet banking, mobile banking applications, ATMs and debit card transactions – should be available throughout the holiday period, unless banks make specific service maintenance announcements.

The State Bank has urged customers to transact business electronically instead of visiting the banks for payments as well as fund transfers and other banking services.

Customers’ banking activities are expected to return to normal on the next working day after the Bank Holiday.
