Pakistan’s high-speed diesel price has increased by Rs1.91 per litre, while petrol prices remain unchanged under the latest fuel-price revision effective from October 24 to 26, adding to public concern over the cost of energy and the government’s petroleum levies.
Under the revised rates, diesel now costs Rs393.66 per litre, compared with Rs391.75 previously. Petrol remains at Rs377.71 per litre. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and Petroleum Division attributed the adjustment to international market developments, including changes in Platts benchmark rates, premiums and other incidental costs.
The petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre and climate support levy of Rs5 per litre have been retained at their existing levels. The latest adjustment follows the previous day’s revision, when diesel became Rs1.64 per litre more expensive and petrol fell by Rs1.60 per litre.
The changes have renewed attention on the impact of fuel prices on household budgets, transportation and the cost of moving goods. Diesel is widely used in commercial transport and agricultural machinery, meaning increases can put additional pressure on businesses and consumers, although the final impact depends on other operating costs and market conditions.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has launched the third phase of its nationwide protest campaign against rising petroleum prices and the petroleum levy. Acting on the instructions of party chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the party is organising sit-ins, rallies and public meetings across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The planned activities include Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Charsadda and Khyber. Protesters are demanding the withdrawal of the petroleum levy and financial relief for ordinary citizens facing high living costs.
The party has indicated that its campaign will continue until its demands are addressed. The latest demonstrations place fuel taxation and affordability back at the centre of public debate, with the government facing pressure to balance revenue requirements against the financial difficulties experienced by households and businesses.
