Pakistan Revises E-Passport Fee Schedule for New Applications and Renewals

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced a revised fee schedule for electronic passports (e-passports), with charges varying according to validity period, page count and processing category.

Under the revised schedule, applicants can choose between five-year and ten-year validity periods, alongside passport booklets containing either 36 or 72 pages. Both normal and urgent processing options are available, allowing applicants to select a category according to their requirements.

The fee structure differs across these categories, with urgent processing costing more than normal processing for all available combinations of validity and page count. Applicants are advised to check the applicable fee before submitting their applications.

The revised charges apply to both new e-passport applications and renewals. This means individuals applying for their first electronic passport and those seeking to renew an existing document will need to follow the updated fee schedule.

The electronic passport contains an embedded electronic chip designed to store relevant passport information and support modern identity-verification procedures. The technology forms part of broader efforts to modernise Pakistan’s travel documents and bring the country’s passport system in line with international standards.

The availability of different validity periods and page-count options gives applicants flexibility when selecting a passport. Those who travel frequently may consider the higher-page-count option, while the choice between normal and urgent processing depends on how quickly the document is required.

However, the exact amount payable will depend on the selected category. Applicants should consult the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports for the official fee applicable to their chosen validity period, page count and processing speed.

The announcement highlights the government’s continued focus on updating passport services and expanding the use of electronic travel documents.

Specific fee amounts and the effective date of the revised schedule were not included in the information provided.
