MULTAN: Police have arrested a contractor accused of allegedly running over a 15-year-old boy in Multan following a dispute over taking time off and returning home. The incident has prompted the victim’s family to demand justice, while questions have also emerged over the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The victim, identified as Waseem Abbas, was reportedly learning electrical work under contractor Tauqeer Nazir. According to the allegations, an argument developed after the teenager sought permission to take time off and go home.
Waseem reportedly attempted to escape before being struck by a car allegedly driven by the contractor. He sustained fatal head injuries, and his body was subsequently shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan.
Police arrested the suspect and registered a case on behalf of the state. The accused was later presented before a magistrate and sent on police remand for further investigation. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the suspect have yet to be established through the judicial process.
Reported CCTV footage of the incident has raised questions about the sequence of events. Investigators are expected to examine the available evidence as they work to establish what happened and determine the circumstances that led to the teenager’s death.
The boy’s family has called for justice and action against those responsible. The case has also drawn attention to the circumstances in which young people learn trades and work under contractors, particularly when questions arise about their safety and supervision.
The management of the orphanage associated with the boy is also reportedly under investigation. Authorities have yet to establish whether any negligence or other wrongdoing occurred in connection with the case.
The incident took another turn when the contractor appeared before a magistrate. Lawyers reportedly beat the suspect outside the court, raising separate concerns about the treatment of an accused person during judicial proceedings.
Police continue to investigate the allegations, while the family awaits further developments. The outcome will depend on the evidence gathered by investigators and the subsequent legal proceedings.
