Pakistan Cuts Petrol Price by Rs3.63 per Litre, Raises Diesel to Rs396.96

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has reduced the petrol price by Rs3.63 per litre to Rs390.23, while increasing the price of diesel by 31 paisa per litre to Rs396.96, effective October 16, 2026.

The latest adjustment brings a modest reduction in petrol prices but increases the cost of diesel, which is widely used in goods transportation and other commercial activities. The changes come as households and businesses continue to face inflationary pressures.

Under the revised rates, petrol is now priced at Rs390.23 per litre, down from its previous level by Rs3.63. Meanwhile, diesel has risen to Rs396.96 per litre following an increase of 31 paisa.

The petrol price reduction is expected to provide some relief to motorcyclists and other petrol users. However, the impact on household budgets may remain limited, particularly as transportation costs and prices of essential goods continue to place pressure on consumers.

The diesel increase could add to operating expenses for transporters and businesses that depend on diesel-powered vehicles. Any resulting impact on freight charges and the prices of goods will depend on how transport operators and businesses respond to the revised rates.

Fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed every fortnight, with adjustments based on international oil prices and movements in the exchange rate. These factors influence the cost of importing petroleum products and contribute to changes in domestic fuel prices.

The latest revision reflects different movements in petrol and diesel prices, leaving consumers with a mixed outcome. While petrol users will benefit from a small reduction, diesel users will face a marginal increase.

Motorists and transport operators will continue to monitor future fuel price announcements, as changes in international energy markets and currency exchange rates can influence the cost of petroleum products in Pakistan.
