Online Taxi Driver Arrested in Lahore for Using Fake Government Number Plate

A man has been arrested in Lahore after police found him using a fake government number plate on a private car that was operating as an online taxi.

The action was taken by Lahore police in the Gulberg area during a routine inspection. Officials said the vehicle was carrying an illegal green government registration plate instead of its original number.

Police identified the suspect as Roheel. According to investigators, he allegedly used the fake government plate to hide the vehicle’s real identity while working for an online ride-hailing service.

A case has been registered against the suspect at Gulberg Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

Traffic officials said the use of fake government number plates is a serious offence because it can make it difficult for law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities or traffic violations.

Authorities also announced that safety measures for online transport services are being expanded across Lahore. As part of the initiative, QR-based panic buttons are being installed in online taxis and rickshaws to improve passenger security and help authorities respond quickly during emergencies.

Officials said strict action will continue against anyone found using fake registration plates or attempting to conceal a vehicle’s identity, adding that such violations will not be tolerated.
