Punjab Expands Interest-Free Home Loan Scheme to Cover House Repairs

The Punjab government has made its Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme bigger eligible families can get interest-free loans. These loans are not just for building homes but also for fixing damaged houses and making new roofs.

The Punjab government made this decision during a meeting that was led by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin. The government wants to give low-income families in the province places to live.

Now under the scheme people who are eligible can get interest-free loans that range from Rs500,000 to Rs1 million. This money will help families who live in homes that’re not safe or are very old. They can fix their homes without having to worry about paying interest on the loan.

The officials said that the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme has already helped around 170,000 families. The Punjab government is happy with the progress so they want to help another 100,000 families in the financial year.

The main goal of the expanded Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme is to help low-income households, people who do not have homes and families who live in homes that are not well maintained or are not safe. The government hopes that this will make homes safer and more affordable for people.

At the meeting Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said that the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme is being done because of the orders of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He said that all loans will still be given in a way without interest so that the families who deserve it can get the financial help they need.

To make it easier for people to apply the government will make a portal where eligible citizens can apply without having to go to government offices. The officials think that this digital system will make it faster more transparent and easier for people, over Punjab to apply.

The Punjab government is trying to make homes better and give help to families who are struggling to fix or rebuild their homes and that is why they expanded the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme.
