Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterates Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, stating it will remain a “sincere facilitator” during regional tensions and continue to support dialogue.
The prime minister made the remarks while meeting Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who is leading a high-level delegation on an official visit to Islamabad.
Shehbaz Sharif on the other hand received the visiting delegation and emphasised the need for enhancing the cooperation between Pakistan and Iran at the meeting. He also raised concerns on the recent security scenario in the Gulf region and urged all parties to refrain from any actions that might exacerbate the situation.
The prime minister stated that Pakistan’s policy of lasting peace is diplomacy and constructive engagement. Islamabad is still dedicated to the support of all efforts for the maintenance of the regional stability,” he added.
Minister Momeni expressed gratitude to the Pakistani leadership for its warm reception and expressed good wishes to the leadership of Pakistan from the perspective of Iran. He welcomed Pakistan’s international efforts for de-escalation in the region and believes that better cooperation between the two neighbouring countries would be beneficial for the region.
As part of his visit, the Iranian interior minister also held a meeting with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ). Both sides discussed the issue of regional security, border management, and matters of mutual interest, according to the military’s media wing.
The two delegations agreed to further cooperate closely in the field of security and reaffirmed their commitment to further developing cooperation for regional peace and stability.
In his visit to Pakistan, Eskandar Momeni also visited the Pakistan Monument and paid condolences to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the cause of the nation, and underscored the enduring ties of friendship between Pakistan and Iran.
